What is conversion tracking and why does it matter?

It’s how every ad platform learns which clicks became leads and revenue. Google, Meta and Microsoft bid with whatever conversion data you feed them, clean signals and the algorithms find more buyers; broken signals and they spend your budget confidently in the wrong direction. GA4 vs Universal Analytics — do I need to migrate?

Universal Analytics is gone, GA4 has been the standard since 2023, so migration isn’t the question anymore. The real question is whether your GA4 was configured properly or rushed through the deadline. Most setups we audit were rushed: default events, no data layer, conversions that don’t match what the ad platforms report. What is server-side tracking / CAPI, and do I need it?

Browser-based tags get blocked by ad blockers, iOS privacy features and cookie limits. Client-side-only setups commonly lose 15–30% of conversions. Server-side tracking (and Meta’s Conversions API) sends those events from your server instead, so the platforms see conversions the browser never reports. If you’re spending real budget, the recovered signal alone usually pays for the setup.

Will this fix my iOS / cookie data loss?

A large share of it, yes. Server-side tagging, Enhanced Conversions and CAPI recover most of what browser-only tracking loses to iOS and cookie restrictions. Nobody honest will promise a perfect 100%. But the platforms get enough clean signal to bid properly again, and that’s what moves your CPA.
